Today's theater is increasingly starting to go beyond the limits of performing arts by opening it to collaborative arts. Recognizing this tendency, we can define the region’s only theatre, the Csiky Gergely Theatre not just as an artistic but also as a cultural centre.

Introduction

The emphasized task of the theatre is to introduce the actual problems of the 21th century’s intermediate society through the prism of the Hungarian language and identity.

With its new program the Kaposvár Theatre is attempting, in the upcoming years, to open its doors also to those who feel the importance of supporting the arts.

It is our aim that our theatre plays a prominent role in the life of Hungarian theatricals. Through being tasteful, brave and entrepreneurial whilst, at the same time, maintaining the tradition.

THE TOWN’S THEATRE – THE THEATRE’S TOWN

The Csiky Gergely Theatre provides a foundation stone in the cultural and community life of Kaposvár and Somogy County and it is the first provincial theatre to be renovated and modernized in the country. 
The quality of the theatrical activity raises the standard of life of the town’s population. The renovated building also proves a tourist attraction. 
The renewed building incites us to give the theatre a new profile and to attract new potential audiences. 
The secessionist building dates from 1911 and, following many intermediate conversions, was completely renovated in 2019, with support from the Hungarian government, at a cost of 9.5 billion forints.
It now boasts the most up to date technology to be found in any of Hungary’s theatres, boasting three stages and commodious areas.
The elegance of the public spaces and the adjacent rooms provide an exclusive environment for receptions. 
The theatre building is equipped for prosaic, musical, alternative and interactive productions, whilst also being capable of hosting special events, on or off stage and in its other spaces. It provides a suitable venue for private events, conferences, fashion shows, symposia, product presentations and round-table meetings.

Sustainability – Green Theatre

The building’s technical features and its corporate-approached management provides opportunity to articulate themselves to the audience and the creative community by forming major messages of society’s point of view, addressing the new consumers with its new image.
Innovative messages are formed thanks for the variety of art. Thereby new projects can be executed which were not experienced in acting and among the theatres’ lives before.
Besides being suitable for prose, musical, alternative and interactive plays, the building offers space for hosting countless other events such as conferences, fashion shows, symposia, round table talks and product presentation shows.


The unique and exclusive location where classical and modern styles mixes, offers an opportunity for the artistic expression of the spirit of innovation.

Raising environmental awareness with the help of the artists and the company

The Csiky Gergely Theatre has created a series of videos that convey important messages on environmental awareness.
In these videos the company members share different practices, tips and lifestyle advices to help people acquire environmentally conscious habits.
The artists promote the conscious living by showing their exemplary activities and positive mind-set: presentation and use of alternative energy sources, veganism, eating healthy, lifestyle, sports, recycling.

Social responsibility

The theatre was able to establish an electric car charging station in its personal parking lot in 2021.  It owns an electric car now, and plans to expand the fleet of electric cars in the future.

Environmental awareness and protection of the environment

The theatre aims to define its operation in the spirit of environmental awareness and environmental protection. Looking for partners to be able to execute the unique initiatives. The theatre is also suitable for organizing environmental, innovation and technological conferences, shows and large-scale events.

A solar park was established on the rooftop which significantly cuts down the operating costs yearly.

A popular and fashionable way of recycling – The poster bag

Csiky Gergely Theatre is going to pay special attention to matter of sustainability during its season of 2021/22. 

The recycled poster bag is one of the planned and already existing items.

On the photos below you can see the theatre’s actors and actresses holding the recycled bags, which were born in the light of the green project - Természetesen Csiky. They were made from giant posters that no longer adorn the theatre building. This way these posters can “live again” in a unique and creative manner, even after they fulfilled their purpose. 

Cool details appear on the bags from the posters of the previously presented plays by the theatre.

Made with the help and creativity of the theatre’s own tailor shop, every one of the bags is truly unique, none of them are identical. 

The poster bags are sold by the theatre itself, you can buy them at the ticket office. 

The revenue will be spent on an interactive whiteboard that provides the theatre’s visitors with useful information in the reception hall. 

This way less paper-based flyers would be used, thus reducing paper consumption and promoting an important environmental issue.
